The National Championship tournament took place in Pretoria on 31st March to 4th April 2011. Unfortunately Boland Deaf could not take part due to communication problems as well as insufficient funds.
However we are very proud to announce that six of our players were selected to represent the SA Deaf Cricket team at the International Deaf Cricket Tournament in Australia in January 2011.
The players were:
Eric Minaar – 107 runs/138 balls, 4 x 4
Roaul Kumalo – 43 runs/71 balls, 2 x 4 and 2 wickets
Ryno Cloete – 39 runs/50 balls, 6 x 4
Ricardo Peters – 24 runs/61 balls, 3 x 4
Jeffrey de Winter – 20 runs/22 balls and 4 wickets
Andre van Rooyen – 2 runs/5 balls not out and 2 wickets
Last year on 22 November 2010 we had a Derby match against WP Deaf Team and lost by only one run. We played at Boland Park Stadium and started late due to rain however we enjoyed the game. The umpires and scorers never appeared in spite of their promise to be there. I would like to thank Charles Visser, SA Deaf Cricket, Michael Lombard, Petrus Burger and Bevan Heyns for all their help.
Last season we did not join Worcester Cricket United due to communication problems within their club. This new season we joined Correction and had some friendly matches against Malmesbury.
With the funds supported by NLDTF we were able to purchase the equipment kits that were needed and are very much appreciated.
I would like to thank my committees and players for their support during the cricket season especially Eric Minaar and Andre van Rooyen for their constant assistance.
